Facebook Event: You Go Girl! Women’s March for Belarus
WHO: Belarusians in Chicago, community members, and supporters.
BACKGROUND: Since August 9th, every Saturday women of Belarus dressed in white and red with flowers in their hands are marching for freedom and against violence and brutality, fears and lies. Every Saturday women of Belarus are met by riot police, forced out of the streets by coercion and threats, by harassment and arrests. Mothers marching for dignity and a better future for their children are threatened with having their children taken away from their families. They are getting fired from their jobs in state-controlled companies. But here they are marching on again...
The presidential elections turned into a pack of lies from the state and a violent crackdown on the peaceful and unarmed people demanding justice and truth. The cities of Belarus have turned into war zones. The police have met the unarmed peaceful protesters with military equipment. Thousands of innocents were arrested and tortured in prisons and some were even killed.
And when the country froze in awe for a moment, women went to the streets dressed in white with flowers in their hands. They were standing along the streets of cities and towns of Belarus inspiring people to stand up for themselves, for the dignity of human life and human rights.
March with us, march with the women of Belarus for peace, respect, and human rights.
Let us break the hatred, fear, and violence with dignity, honor, and inner strength!
