About the event

The book shows the birth and formation of civil activism in Belarus, focusing on Ales Bialiatski, one of the brightest members of the human rights movement in Belarus. This book is also a story of Belarus, which continues fighting for its dignity, respect for human rights, culture, and independence.

The publication includes Bialiatski's memoirs, publications in periodicals, speeches at conferences and courts, interviews in Belarusian and international media, and letters smuggled from prison.

The Belarusians in Chicago organization is grateful to the Kreceuski Foundation, NY, the Association of Belarusians in America, and the Institute on the Formation of Knowledge, University of Chicago, for organizing the presentation.
